We offer a wide range of capabilities including recreations. A recreation is when an element of a pattern or design is desired to fit another purpose place. Old gates railings and balconies during WW2 were sacrificed for the metal to fund the war effort. The material was scrapped and made into tanks armor and bullets. In many cases only photos remain. From a simple photo the concept can be recreated via blackmithing.
Our experienced Blackmiths take the original designs and can fully reproduce to have old world designs in todays modern world. not only can it be recreated but it can also be enhanced like in this design with leaf work and exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship.
An overthrough or an arch over the gates was a must during the guilded area. It was a symbol of luxury status unbound by wealth via engineering and design architecture. the gates also created privacy and security to its owners with a perimeter barrier that would keep outsides from entering a private grounds.
Wrought Iron gates are in need of restoration repair at least once every 100 years. Rust and corrosion from the elements need to be addressed. Weak areas need to be removed, repaired and reinstalled. In many cases it takes more knowledge to restore a set of gates than making them from new. this is because it first has to be reverse engineered than re assembled. It is a time consuming tedious process. Sandblasting and removing old corrosion is key. Fresh paint is then applied. Reinstall of the metalwork in its original place is the final step in the restoration process. Once done a historical landmark will remain like a time capsule in the present.
Much like that of gates, fencing too has to be restored on a periodic basis. old rivits loosen, hinges and latches need attention. In many cases because fencing spans large distances, it is common to see damage from ground moving over time or a tree growing roots under the fence. Storms also crest tree lims Lyms or even entire trees to fall on works.
although a reproduction is always available, it is always nice to have a metalwork restored to its original gander. It has a story or a blacksmith and its creation from in many cases over 100 years ago and the struggle to achieve its excellence.
Doors from the 1940’s and doors of today are completely different. Like this home built in the 1940’s, the doors are build tall and narrow. Single payne glass windows does not offer much more R value an a screen door. But it does offer a look like no other. Made with cremone handles and locks made of brass, the craftsman of the time knew what was best and what lasted.
Weather and time is the metalworks worst enemy. Rust forms and expands making the the doors inoperable as its made are fit to a tight area. From there hinges and latches breaking, getlong misplaced and thrown away. New matching elements have to be created and made to fit. new glass, new glazings and new seals make the interior of the home a more comfortable please climate controlled experience once restoration is complete.
Here is an example of a sketch of a gate that was created in the 1800’s or older. It was hand drawn because the time of recording the original artwork was prier to the invention photography. Today the piece is now gone and the drawing is all that remains.
we take great pride in taking old designs and placing them into spaces they fit. these gates completely change the look and feel of this entry. Working from the old sketch to create new is a testimate and honor the originator badmouth of the work and a compliment to a new space
Window grills are common in larger populated areas like large towns or cities. commonly used for security also can be used to accent a focal point area or add an extra flare of character to an area.
Understanding the purpose and function of the grills is always number one. Like this unit, many are stationary but others also can operate like a window and can open and close. This unit was made with rivits and collars to give it an aged look.
Wrought iron staircases like that of grand estate gates are a sign of elegance, wealth and prestige. This set of stairs was neglected and the staircase needed repair. To conform with current codes the pattern, height and design no longer was suitable so it needed to be completely replaced.
Made with all new materials, this staircase was built to conform to commercial codes. This means it needed to be taller and have the ada pipe rail graspable rail on the side. Doing this artfully was a task by trying to keep a look and feel of the original but make it functional to todays standards.
With a simple sketch, a door idea can be taken from a simple concept to real life. Extra tall doors to darwf its operator to make them feel small as they enter the space. The oversized height also offers a distinction that the door is not a premade but it’s unique and one off handmade unit.
A True status symbol. complete with metalwork to match the style of the home. These doors are thermally broken which means heat or cold does not transfer to the inside like most wrought iron doors, thick windows for better Insolation and window grills the open for the periodic window cleaning. Dressed with modern door handles with lock and key.
With pipes and tubing much like the picture shown. Moisture and water finds its way to the interior of the railing. In time rust and rot will result. This causes holes and eventually structural damage.
In most cases railings only fit in one location and that is the location that they were specifically built for. All of the tubing had to be replaced and precautions were made to aid in the protection of this issue from happening again.
